Mr. Brunner School Closure, Enrichment Activities, iPad Distribution and more... Brooklyn Brownstone Families and Friends,
Welcome to week 4 of Brooklyn Brownstone School Online! I hope you had a good weekend and a very Happy Easter. In this message, I will discuss the following: - School Closure - Enrichment Activities This Week - iPad Application and Distribution - Free Grab and Go Meals for ALL New Yorkers Please see the following links: Free Meals: http://www.brooklynbrownstoneschool.com/free-meals-during-school-closure.html iPad Application: https://coronavirus.schools.nyc/RemoteLearningDevices Thank you for watching. Remember that our school website, www.brooklynbrownstoneschool.com has resources and crucial information. Please comment or contact us if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions. Have a great week! In partnership, Mr. Brunner Please see this official message from the Department of Education: “On Saturday, April 11, after consulting with public health experts and educators about the ongoing trajectory of the virus, and the potential for continued disruption for the remainder of the year . Mayor de Blasio and Chancellor Carranza announced that New York City public school buildings will not reopen during the 2019-20 school year. Teachers and students will finish the school year in remote learning. We will continue to operate our 400+ school-based Meal Hubs, which serve three free meals a day to any New Yorker who needs them, and we will continue to ensure child care for the children of essential workers. This is a painful but necessary decision. Public health experts have determined that community transmission of COVID-19 will be widespread well into the end of the school year. Even at low-level transmission, we’d have new cases, which would be extremely difficult to contain school-to-school. We believe there simply wouldn’t be enough time to bring our students back. We know how important it is to have some sense of predictability in order to plan for what’s best for your family. This crisis is hitting all of us very hard. We are hopeful that this sense of certainty will allow for more stability and the ability to plan for work and home lives. The DOE is committed to supporting our students and families as you continue this tremendous undertaking.” More information to come during my Monday morning message. Until then, I hope you have a relaxing weekend and a Happy Easter Sunday. In Partnership, Mr. Brunner It’s National Assistant Principal’s Week! “Every child deserves a champion - an adult who will never give up on them” - Dr. Rita Pierson Mrs. Richards has been a pillar in the Brooklyn Brownstone school since the beginning. She was part of the parent planning committee that dreamt of a school unlike any other in Brooklyn. Mrs. Richards was the very first Brooklyn Brownstone teacher and this year she became our first Assistant Principal. During this difficult time, I know I’m not alone in my appreciation for her leadership, compassion, and service. Please join me in expressing our gratitude to a fantastic educator and Assistant Principal, Mrs. Amanda Richards. Good Evening Brooklyn Brownstone Families and Friends, I am reaching out asking you to complete another online form. This time it's a little different, I'm asking you to fill out the census... "There's still a reality that folks with more resources get more health care" - Mayor DeBlasio “Sometimes when you’re in the middle of a crisis, like we are now with the coronavirus, it really does … ultimately shine a very bright light on some of the real weaknesses and foibles in our society,” Dr. Fauci The census determines how resources are distributed and Brooklyn is woefully underrepresented. An estimated 33% of Brooklyn households did not participate in the last census, which is the lowest in the country for counties over 500,000 residents! We need to make sure we aren't underrepresented again. We need our fair share of funding for our communities and our schools! Complete the form online and fulfill your civic duty. my2020census.gov In partnership, Mr. Brunner
