Tentative Reopening Plan 2.0

7/24/2020

Good Evening and Happy Friday!

During the town hall this morning, we discussed the revised reopening plan. Please see the updated version below. Be mindful that this document will change as we receive new information leading up to September.

UPDATES:
Pre-K and Kindergarten:
  • Pre-K will be an "AB" schedule (Model 1)
  • Playgrounds will not be utilized
  • "Centers" will occur more frequently with less children per center. Sensory centers (sand tables, etc.) can only have 1 child.
  • - Children will not eat "family style"
  • Children age 3 - 5 will be escorted to their bathrooms and hand washing/ sanitation will be scheduled throughout the day
  • Young children learn through play and active exploration. Therefore, screen time will be minimal for our youngest learners.

Curricula:
  • Students will experience thematic learning experiences that require utilizing various skills, strategies, and content knowledge across subject areas leading to a culminating project-based performance task.
  • All early childhood will increase their focus on literacy and foundational skills including phonics, reading and writing.
  • 100% remote learning students will receive more synchronous virtual education that blended learning students that have the benefit of in-person sessions
  • All students, whether they are 100% remote or blended will experience synchronous lessons together each week to ensure community and class connections. Student learn best through discussion and collaboration with their peers. This remains a focus no matter our platform.

Social Emotional Well-being:
  • Outdoor time is required daily for all (weather permitting)(including instructional periods).
  • The first two months will focus on social-emotional learning and trauma informed practices. Children learn best when their foundational needs are met and they are an active member of a community.

Logistics:
  • All students will be supplied with individual supplies
  • PE, music and visual art will be shorter for air purification and sanitation between classes
  • 3rd - 5th grade teachers will transition as opposed to students
  • All school meals will be bagged and children will eat in the classrooms
  • Grab-and-go meals will be available to all community members including those who are 100% remote and may be picked up in the morning at the main school entrance.

We must remain adaptive in the face of a challenging and changing environment. No matter the situation this fall, I am confident that we will provide a rich and robust learning experience for our children because....

T.B.B.S. WE ARE THE BEST!

Have a great weekend everyone.

In partnership,
Mr. Brunner
