Good Afternoon Brooklyn Brownstone School,
Congratulations! We’ve made it to our final week of the 2019-2020 school year. Items covered in this message: - Report cards - Staying connected throughout the Summer - Mission and milestones for the Brooklyn Brownstone School - We are prepared to reshape our community I will be in touch later this week. Please reach out with any questions, concerns, or suggestions. In partnership, Mr. Brunner Hello TBBS Family! Let's celebrate the end of the school year with a virtual field week! Field Day has always been an excellent way for The Brooklyn Brownstone School Community to celebrate the end of the year. Despite not being able to host our traditional Field Day, we have planned a virtual field week for our scholars and families. For our virtual field week, please try the fun challenges posted in Google Classroom and share them in Flipgrid by Wednesday, June 24. This will allow you the flexibility to complete the events on your schedule. Choose the challenges that you like. There are 19 activities that students can try, so there is something for everyone. The challenges can be done with simple things around the house and can be done inside or outside. Please feel free to make modifications to the activities if necessary. Flipgrid is a message board where students can share videos and respond to each other's work. https://flipgrid.com/pebrownstone Students need to log in with Google using their brownstone email address: ______@thebrooklynbrownstoneschool.org You can also download Flipgrid application on your phone and tablet. Flip Code: pebrownstone Families are encouraged to participate and we hope that you all have fun participating in The Brooklyn Brownstone School Virtual Field Week! Participation Awards:
Thank you, Mr. Choi Good Morning Brooklyn Brownstone School, The District 16 Social Justice Student Voice Campaign website is live! Check our the student showcase: d16socialjusticecampaign.weebly.com We also have resources for Juneteenth and the 2020 Census. Check it out. Special shout our the Kingston David and his family for an inspiring video submission! Wishing you all the best, Mr. Brunner Good Afternoon Brooklyn Brownstone School, Please see the following message from our partners at USCensus and Brownstone parents: "What is Juneteenth? Juneteenth marks the moment at which many of those who had been enslaved in the United States finally learned of the Emancipation Proclamation and the way in which it ultimately applied to all parts of the country -- a full two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation (1863) declared freedom for those who were enslaved. Juneteenth reminds us that slavery didn't simply end with the Emancipation Proclamation, and the Black Lives Matter movement and the disproportionate impact COVID-19 has on Black communities shows us that to this day our institutions have been subject to manipulation over the years to render them, at times, as tools of oppression, as opposed to justice. The census is, in concept, the very basis for the equitable distribution of money, power, and resources across the country and across communities. Although the census of today is on its face not inherently designed to marginalize any one group and is a critical exercise we must all participate in to ensure that it is, in fact, a tool for empowerment. And so, in honor of Juneteenth, we lift up all who suffered and continue to struggle against institutional racism and we recommit to breaking the chains that remain by getting the word out to achieve a complete count in the 2020 census." “We are a strong, resilient people who will not be marginalized and erased from this country by not participating in the 2020 Census.” -- National Urban League Complete your census: https://2020census.gov/ Good Evening Families and Friends,
